In 2009, Taema (France), Markos Mefar (Italy), and Electrocare Systems & Services (India) were amalgamated to form Air Liquide Medical Systems.

Air Liquide Medical Systems S.A. (formerly Taema) originated as a department of Air Liquide in 1975, becoming an independent entity in 1989. Initially focusing on gas distribution and implementation equipment within hospitals, the company later expanded into respiratory medicine equipment.

Air Liquide Medical Systems S.p.A. (formerly Markos Mefar) resulted from the merger of Markos and Mefar, Italian companies acquired in 1996 and 2000, respectively. Since 1970, its dedication to research and expertise in the respiratory field has positioned the company as a leader in the Italian market for aerosol therapy devices, used to treat pathologies affecting the upper and lower airways.

Air Liquide Medical Systems Pvt. Ltd. (formerly Electrocare Systems and Services) was established in 1981 and acquired by Air Liquide in 2008. Headquartered in Chennai (Madras), the company manufactures ventilators for intensive care and anesthesia. It also handles the distribution and after-sales service of Air Liquide Medical Systems products throughout India via a nationwide network.
