The 2998 Photodiode Array Detector for precision chromatographic analysis
The Waters 2998 Photodiode Array (PDA) detector is an essential analytical solution for laboratories seeking to combine reliability, spectral performance and flexibility in their HPLC analyses. Thanks to its design and the integration of high-precision optical components, this instrument covers a wavelength range from 190 to 800 nm with a digital resolution of 1.2 nm per pixel, supported by an array of 512 photodiodes. This architecture ensures fast and complete spectral acquisition, ideal for identifying and quantifying impurities, monitoring chromatographic peaks and analysing complex spectral profiles in real time.
At the heart of the 2998 PDA is a deuterium arc lamp, which guarantees a stable and high-performance light source with a specified lifetime of 2,000 hours or one year. The exclusive TaperSlit™ technology of the flow cell optimises detection sensitivity and linearity while minimising dispersion effects, making this detector particularly effective for demanding analyses. The standard analytical cell has an optical path length of 10 mm and a volume of 8.4 µL, suitable for most standard HPLC applications.
The 2998 detector also features remarkable base stability, with noise below 10 µAU peak-to-peak and drift below 1 mAU/h under controlled conditions, ensuring reproducible analytical results. Its sampling rate of up to 80 points per second enables fast and accurate data acquisition, even under high-speed chromatography conditions. At the same time, its ability to operate in 2D and 3D modes simultaneously offers exceptional flexibility in the analysis and interpretation of results, particularly when using Waters Empower™ software.
Designed to integrate seamlessly with Alliance HPLC, ACQUITY Arc and ACQUITY Arc Bio systems, the 2998 detector offers several configurations for different analytical applications, including biocompatible chromatography and purification.
Easy to use and maintain, the 2998 detector offers a user-friendly interface with multiple analogue and event inputs and outputs for seamless integration into any laboratory environment. Its compact size, low noise level (<58 dBA) and environmental robustness (operating between 4 and 40°C) make it ideal for modern, regulated working environments.
