Agilent 53131A universal counter: precision measurement and flexibility
The Agilent 53131A is a universal counter designed to provide fast and accurate frequency and time measurements in a compact format. This two-channel counter is capable of resolving up to 10 digits per second for frequency and period measurements, with a standard bandwidth of up to 225 MHz. An optional third channel extends the measured frequency range to 3, 5 or even 12.4 GHz, making it suitable for applications in the most demanding RF and electronic environments.
Its real-time digital signal processing technology allows data to be analysed while continuing to collect new measurements, optimising measurement throughput. This feature, derived from the brand's high-end modulation domain analysers, enables high-resolution measurements to be made in a fraction of the time required by other similar counters.
The device also offers built-in mathematical and statistical functions for calculating averages, minimum and maximum values, and standard deviation. An automated limit test system allows upper and lower thresholds to be defined for measurements and immediate indications to be obtained if these are exceeded. For added flexibility, up to 20 front panel configurations can be stored and recalled at the touch of a button.
For applications requiring computer control, the meter incorporates a standard SCPI-compatible GPIB interface and offers a data transfer rate of up to 200 fully formatted measurements per second. A RS-232 interface in "talk-only" mode is also available for printer support or data transfer to a PC via a terminal emulation program.
With IntuiLink software, users can easily access meter data from their computer and export it to applications such as Microsoft Excel or Word for easy analysis and documentation. This solution makes it easy to configure and run tests directly from the PC, making data collection even more convenient.
The Agilent 53131A features a standard time base, but can be equipped with optional high-stability time bases to further improve measurement accuracy. Its rugged design, combined with a wide operating temperature range and compliance with safety and electromagnetic compatibility standards, ensures reliable performance in a variety of environments.
