Thermo Scientific Forma 88600V: a benchmark ultra-low temperature storage solution

To meet these critical challenges, the Thermo Scientific Forma 88600V freezer has been designed to ensure sample integrity at very low temperatures while optimising space, safety and energy efficiency.
The 88600V model is part of the Forma 88000 series, renowned for its unrivalled thermal performance. This upright freezer offers a net capacity of 815 litres, equivalent to 600 2-inch cryoboxes, allowing storage of up to 60,000 2 mL tubes. Thanks to its intelligent design, it offers an exceptional storage-to-footprint ratio, with a small footprint of only 1.06 m².
One of the major advantages of the 88600V is its LCD touchscreen control system, combined with an intuitive user interface. This technology allows real-time viewing of key parameters, including event history, alarm status, environmental conditions and internal temperature distributed across 8 points. The built-in data logging function allows up to 15 years of information to be stored, which can be easily exported via USB for analysis or configuration transfer to other devices.
Safety is at the heart of the 88600V's design. The system incorporates a colour-coded visual health monitor (heart icon), indicating the freezer's operating status at a glance. Three levels of access security are available, with key locking, padlock compatibility and an optional smart card system (RFID) for precise access control and door opening logging. In addition, the polystyrene-insulated internal doors with neodymium magnets ensure excellent temperature maintenance when opened.
The 88600V model also stands out for its energy efficiency. It offers two operating modes: a high-performance mode for applications requiring maximum temperature stability, and an energy-saving mode that reduces consumption by up to 15%. It is equipped with a power management system that protects against voltage fluctuations, while remaining accessible via the touchscreen.
Mechanical innovations are not to be outdone. The high-efficiency dual compressor refrigeration system, multi-zone heated door seals and lockable castors contribute to reliable and ergonomic daily use. Additional safety options, such as CO₂ or LN₂ backup systems, enhance sample protection in the event of a power failure.
Its compatibility with Thermo Fisher's Smart-Vue system enables centralised wireless monitoring of storage conditions. This solution is ideal for regulated environments or those requiring rigorous traceability.
