Alaris DS Infusion Pump Docking Station

Medical Specialties: Emergency Medicine

The Alaris DS docking station from  Cardinal Health is a modular platform designed to consolidate and power up to several Alaris infusion pumps (syringe and volumetric). Compact, secure and easy to mount on a trolley or rail, it offers a centralised solution with a single power supply point. Thanks to its robust design and flexible mounting system, it guarantees reliable operation in a hospital environment. Its standardised interface allows for quick integration, while its internal power supply system ensures optimal infusion continuity, all in compliance with current medical safety standards.

Description

The Alaris DS infusion pump docking station from Cardinal Health: modularity for medical precision

The Alaris DS docking station is one of the most advanced systems for the organisation, power supply and centralised management of infusion devices in demanding medical environments. Developed by Cardinal Health, this station is a modular solution designed for healthcare professionals who need flexibility, safety and efficiency on a daily basis.

Designed to accommodate all Alaris infusion pumps (both syringe and volumetric), the station is based on a standardised connection interface that simplifies handling and equipment changes. Pumps can be installed quickly without complex wiring: a single action mechanically secures the device and supplies it with power. The base of the station includes a "power tile" that centralises the mains power supply via a single IEC input and distributes it securely to all connected modules.

One of the major advantages of this station is its mounting system, called the Medical Device Interface (MDI), which allows it to be installed on a mobile trolley or a fixed horizontal bar. This adaptable design saves space while ensuring optimal stability even during frequent movements in a hospital environment.

Electrical safety is at the heart of the station's design. Each unit is equipped with a mains switch with indicator light, double protection fuses and an earthing system that complies with international medical standards (EN60601-1, Class I). Rigorous testing, including earth continuity, leakage currents, and insulation resistance, is recommended after each maintenance and once a year to ensure compliance.

In addition to its electrical performance, the station is also easy to maintain. The technical manual recommends regular cleaning with standard disinfectant solutions, as well as periodic inspection of connections and components sensitive to moisture, dust or temperature. The modular design also facilitates the replacement of spare parts (tiles, fuses, connectors, horizontal extrusion), with precise technical documentation dedicated to biomedical technicians.

The durability and reliability of this station are enhanced by the use of robust components and the ability to replace each module individually. Whether for use in intensive care units, recovery rooms or operating theatres, the Alaris DS docking station guarantees smooth and reliable infusion management, while meeting the highest hospital safety requirements.
