Description

AirLoc: Effective Stabilization and Personalized Comfort for Ankle Injuries

The AirLoc® orthosis by Bauerfeind is specifically designed to meet the stabilization needs of the ankle in cases of acute trauma, conservative treatments, or post-operative care. This medical device, prescribed by a healthcare professional, aims to limit pathological movements of the joint, particularly pronation and supination rotations, while ensuring optimal comfort through adjustable air cushioning technology. It provides effective management for ankle sprains, ligament ruptures, chronic instabilities, or non-displaced Weber A-type fractures.

The AirLoc® relies on an ingenious system of rigid lateral shells combined with an air chamber that can be inflated using an integrated pump. This design allows the level of compression and support to be adjusted according to the specific needs of each patient. The orthosis adapts to the wearer's morphology through two adjustable Velcro straps and a unilateral air cushion, ensuring stabilization without excessive pressure points.

Its use is simple and intuitive but requires initial intervention by a healthcare professional to ensure proper adjustment. The orthosis should only be worn with sturdy footwear, such as sports or casual shoes. Once correctly positioned, the patient can adjust the pressure via the pump system for personalized support. It is recommended not to exceed 20 pumps to preserve the integrity of the air cushion.

The AirLoc® requires no prior structural adaptation and can be worn on either the right or left leg. Its ergonomic design allows for prolonged use with minimal maintenance required. Cleaning should be done by hand with mild soap after closing the Velcro straps.

This orthosis is part of a modern therapeutic approach aimed at encouraging early functional mobilization while securing the joint. It can be used in post-surgical rehabilitation, particularly after ligament suturing or reconstruction, and also as a preventive measure to avoid injury recurrence.

With the AirLoc®, Bauerfeind offers a reliable and adjustable device for healthcare professionals seeking to provide their patients with a stabilization solution tailored to the demands of acute or chronic ankle pathologies. By combining stability, adaptability, and comfort, this orthosis stands as a reference option in its category.
