Canon R-F10: An automated autorefractor for reliable and efficient eye examinations
The Canon R-F10 is an automatic autorefractor designed to meet growing demands for speed, accuracy and ease of use. By replacing the traditional joystick with an ergonomic combination of trackball and wheel, Canon has simplified the operator's movements, making alignments more intuitive and less tiring. A simple press of the "Start" button is all it takes to start automatic alignment, measurement and printing, all in a smooth process without any additional manual intervention.
The R-F10 stands out with an exceptional measurement range from -30D to +22D, enabling effective assessment of high myopia and hyperopia. This range is invaluable for professionals dealing with complex cases, ensuring accurate and appropriate care. In addition, it automatically measures the pupillary distance (PD) of each eye and includes it in the printed report, alongside the spherical, cylindrical and axial data. The automatic blurring system, coupled with a coloured target, ensures optimal accommodative relaxation of the patient for increased measurement reliability.
The design of the R-F10 is not only aesthetic, it is also functional. Its motorised chin rest facilitates vertical adjustment to suit the patient's morphology, while the open design of the measuring head frees up space around the face. This allows better access to the eye, especially in cases of long eyelashes or drooping eyelids, and improves the ergonomics of the examination, especially in confined spaces. Operators thus benefit from optimal freedom of movement and a clear working environment.
The control panel centralises essential functions such as memory display, eye-lens distance (EL) adjustment and activation of implant mode (IOL). It can be used in both sitting and standing positions, with touch-sensitive keys and a fast response. Three VD distances are available, allowing the examination to be adapted to suit prescriptions for glasses or contact lenses.
Results are printed quickly thanks to the integrated thermal printer, which provides a detailed report including measurements, date, time, eye diagram and serial number. In addition, an automatic standby mode switches off unused components after five minutes of inactivity, reducing energy consumption.
Compliant with international electrical safety standards and equipped with a universal 100–240V power supply, the R-F10 can be easily installed in any medical environment. Whether for clinics, ophthalmology practices or opticians, it is a reliable, modern tool that is perfectly suited to today's requirements.
