Leica Autostainer XL – Efficient automation for histological staining
The Leica Autostainer XL (ST5010) is specially designed to meet the productivity and quality requirements of modern laboratories. Capable of processing up to 600 slides per hour, it offers a maximum capacity of 11 slide holders, each holding 30 slides. This performance is made possible by an internal transport system that automatically manages movement and staining steps. The device can run up to 15 different programmes, with a maximum of 25 steps each, and allows several compatible protocols to be run in parallel, optimising overall laboratory throughput.
Flexibility and optimised process control
The Autostainer XL stands out for its flexibility of use. Each slide holder can be assigned to a different protocol, provided that the sequences are compatible. Programmes can be edited and customised via an intuitive control panel with a backlit LCD screen. The user can adjust essential parameters such as oven temperature (from 35 to 65°C), the number of immersion movements, incubation time and transfer speed. The reagent stations, each with a volume of 450 ml, are easily identifiable, removable and covered to limit solvent evaporation. The integrated washing system, with up to five flow-controlled stations, ensures effective rinsing and reduces cross-contamination.
Safety, ergonomics and simplified maintenance
Safety is at the heart of the Leica Autostainer XL's design. The device incorporates a vapour extraction system via an activated carbon filter, supplemented by the option of connection to external ventilation. Slide holders are loaded and unloaded via two separate drawers without opening the main cover, reducing user exposure to reagents.
Maintenance is easy thanks to removable, washable components that are resistant to laboratory dishwasher cleaning cycles (up to 65°C). Visual and audible alerts signal when operations need to be performed or errors occur, while the materials and seals used ensure increased longevity. Compatibility with the TS5015 transfer station and the CV5030 robotic coverslipper allows for seamless integration into a complete slide preparation workflow.
