Optimize Battery Management and Performance with the Battery Support System 2
The Medtronic Battery Support System 2 (BSS 2) is a device designed to optimize the management and longevity of batteries used in LIFEPAK defibrillators and monitors. It provides a complete solution for charging, conditioning, and shelf-life testing of FASTPAK and LIFEPAK batteries. This equipment allows for testing the battery’s capacity through deep charge cycles, maintaining its optimal condition, and providing a clear indication of when a battery reaches the end of its useful life.
The BSS 2 can charge, condition, or test up to three batteries simultaneously, making it particularly suited for high-use medical environments where multiple batteries need to be ready for use at any given time. It features clear indication through LED indicators that show whether a battery is charging, ready for use, or needs to be recycled.
The device is designed for ease of use while ensuring optimal performance of FASTPAK and LIFEPAK batteries. The BSS 2 includes a charge indicator that alerts the user to the battery’s charging status. When a battery requires routine maintenance, such as conditioning or shelf-life testing, the BSS 2 will indicate this as well. Proper battery maintenance is crucial, as NiCd and SLA batteries lose performance if not properly maintained.
The BSS 2 is equipped with two main indicators: one for charge indication and another for conditioning indication. The conditioning process is essential to prevent voltage depression, which helps maximize battery capacity and lifespan. This system also ensures safety with protection against short circuits and an automatic shutdown feature to prevent damage from overcharging.
In addition to its charging efficiency, the BSS 2 is capable of performing a shelf-life test for FASTPAK and LIFEPAK batteries. This test helps determine if a battery discharges too quickly and whether it should be discarded.
The BSS 2 is easy to install in medical spaces with its optional wall mount bracket, allowing for both horizontal and vertical installation as needed. It is powered by a detachable AC power cord, making installation and maintenance simple. The device is designed for indoor use and operates optimally within a temperature range of 20 to 25°C.
