Sigma 4-16KHS – High-capacity refrigerated and heated centrifuge for versatile applications
The Sigma 4-16KHS is part of Sigma's 4-16 series, renowned for its flexibility and robustness in processing large sample volumes. Capable of achieving a maximum relative centrifugal force of 5,526 x g with an oscillating rotor or 25,155 x g with a fixed-angle rotor, it meets the needs of both routine and complex applications in research and production. Its large capacity allows it to process up to 4 x 750 ml in a swing-out rotor or 6 x 250 ml in a fixed rotor, ensuring high throughput while maintaining reproducible separation quality.
The KHS version stands out thanks to its unique heating and cooling function, offering an adjustable temperature range from -20 °C to +60 °C. This feature makes it particularly suitable for samples whose viscosity needs to be adjusted before or during centrifugation. Thanks to this combination, the Sigma 4-16KHS is a key tool in sectors such as biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, environmental analysis and hospital laboratories.
Ease of use and enhanced safety
Equipped with the patented Spincontrol S controller, the Sigma 4-16KHS allows precise and intuitive adjustment of all parameters, including speed, RCF and temperature, even during operation. Its large, easy-to-read TFT display continuously shows the set and measured values, while a clear and structured menu simplifies navigation. Acceleration and braking curves (30 options each) allow separations to be optimised as required, and up to 60 programmes can be stored with customised names for quick access.
Safety is ensured by systems such as automatic rotor identification, cycle time monitoring, motorised lid locking, password protection and imbalance monitoring. Maintenance is reduced thanks to the maintenance-free induction motor and easy-to-clean stainless steel chamber.
Wide range of rotors and accessories for all applications
The Sigma 4-16KHS is compatible with a wide range of swing-out and fixed-angle rotors, as well as adapters and buckets for tubes from 0.2 ml to 750 ml, microtitre plates and deepwell plates. The available configurations deliver top performance in this centrifuge class, including the ability to centrifuge 50 ml culture tubes at over 23,000 x g.
Specific accessories, including biosafe hermetic buckets and special coatings resistant to cleanroom environments, are available to ensure corrosion protection and sample safety. Sigma also offers custom-made accessories to meet specific requirements. This extensive modularity makes the Sigma 4-16KHS an instrument that can evolve with the demands of the laboratory.
