Description

Thermo Scientific Biofuge Primo – Performance and safety for your laboratory separations

The Thermo Scientific Biofuge Primo centrifuge is a high-performance benchtop device designed for the demands of modern laboratories, whether for research, clinical analysis or industrial applications. Versatile and robust, this centrifuge enables fast and efficient separation of liquid materials according to their density or particle size at speeds of up to 15,000 rpm. It accepts a wide range of rotors, tubes and adapters, making it an ideal choice for a variety of applications, including centrifugation of microtubes, Falcon tubes, PCR strips and biological samples in a secure environment.

The Biofuge Primo features a brushless induction motor, ensuring extremely quiet and maintenance-free operation. This motor contributes to high long-term reliability by minimising vibrations even at high speeds. Its Easycontrol II microprocessor control system makes it easy to program parameters such as speed (or RCF), operating time, acceleration/braking profiles and continuous operation mode (hLd). These settings can be changed at any time during centrifugation, giving the user great flexibility.

For operations requiring very short times, a "Quick Run" function allows immediate centrifugation as long as the button is pressed. The centrifuge reaches its maximum speed quickly, making this mode ideal for express precipitation or rinsing.

In terms of safety, the Biofuge Primo is equipped with an electromagnetic lid locking system, an electronic imbalance detector and an automatic rotor detection system to prevent overload or speed incompatibility. It also features a manual emergency opening mechanism in the event of a power failure.

Its interface is protected by an easy-to-clean film, and the entire chamber is made of reinforced plastic with an internal metal frame, ensuring high impact resistance. It complies with international electrical safety standards (IEC 61010, EN 61326) and can be used with biological class II samples thanks to its rotors and sealed caps (certified by CAMR, Porton-Down, UK).

The Biofuge Primo is compatible with several fixed-angle rotors, swing-bucket rotors, or rotors specifically designed for PCR and microlitres. The rotors and adapters are autoclavable (up to 121°C) and are available in aerosol-tight versions. Cleaning and disinfection are easy, and the centrifuge can be maintained by the user to ensure long-term proper operation.
