The Barkey Plasmatherm, developed by Azenta Life Sciences, is a state-of-the-art medical device designed to meet the specific needs of healthcare facilities for the thawing and warming of blood products and other biological preparations. This device stands out for its ability to simultaneously process up to 4 bags of fresh frozen plasma (FFP), erythrocyte concentrates, cryopreserved preparations, cryopreserved stem cells (HPC), or infusion solutions such as Octaplas LG. In emergencies, it can even handle up to 8 bags in parallel, offering valuable flexibility in critical situations.

One of the key features of the Plasmatherm is its dry thawing system, which eliminates direct contact with water. This approach significantly reduces the risk of contamination, in line with the recommendations of the British Society for Haematology (BSH). The device is also designed to ensure a high level of hygiene, with smooth surfaces and rounded edges that facilitate cleaning and disinfection. In addition, it is equipped with two leak detection sensors, further enhancing the safety and reliability of the device.

The Plasmatherm is simple and intuitive to use, thanks to a user-friendly interface and a large screen displaying clear and accurate information. Shortcuts are available for different types of products (plasma, blood, HPC, Octaplas), as well as a customisable user programme. The device also allows the thawing process to be documented using the Barkey TCP Logging Tool software, accessible via an Ethernet connection.

In terms of safety, the Plasmatherm is equipped with two redundant overheating alarms, an adjustable temperature range from +37°C to +45°C, and visual and audible signals to indicate the end of the heating cycle or in the event of an error. The device is also certified to safety and quality standards, including CE certification and DIN EN ISO 13485.
