Calamus® Dual: dual-function thermal obturation unit for endodontic practice
Calamus® Dual is a medical device for thermal obturation of root canals, used exclusively by qualified professionals in dental practices, clinics or hospitals. It combines two complementary handpieces: one for the Downpack process, which heats gutta-percha points to compact and cut them while hot, and the other for Backfill, which ensures the precise injection of heated gutta-percha into the prepared canal.
The Pack handpiece can reach temperatures of up to 400°C for vertical compaction or thermal response, with rapid heat-up activated by simply pressing the sleeve. Temperature control, preset memory and integrated audible feedback ensure intuitive and safe handling. The thermal response mode is preset to 90°C for pulp vitality tests.
On the Flow side, the system uses pre-filled gutta-percha cartridges, which are heated and injected directly via a bendable cannula. The flow rate and temperature are adjustable, and the cartridge can be quickly replaced once the procedure is complete. An LED screen displays the active parameters, and visual indicators help to estimate the remaining gutta-percha level.
The device also features safety functions such as automatic heating shut-off after a period of inactivity and heating time limitation based on the selected temperature. It is recommended that a heated tip never remain in the canal for more than 4 seconds to preserve tissue integrity.
The entire system, including handpieces, pluggers, cannulas and accessories, is designed to be cleaned and sterilised in accordance with strict standards, without immersion or corrosive solutions. Calamus® Dual is a complete solution designed to meet the clinical requirements of three-dimensional filling, with optimised continuous use and easy integration into current endodontic protocols.
