Calima™ by Medtronic: A complete solution for intraoperative thermal management
Intraoperative hypothermia is a common complication in patients undergoing surgery under general anaesthesia. It can lead to an increased risk of infection, increased blood loss, cardiac problems and prolonged recovery time. The Calima™ system from Medtronic has been designed to address these challenges by offering a reliable, high-performance forced-air warming solution suitable for all surgical environments.
The Calima™ is a compact and robust device that is easy to install and move. It can be mounted on a trolley, IV pole or placed close to the patient. Its intuitive control panel allows for quick and effortless use, while its integrated mechanisms ensure precise temperature control. Three fan speeds and four temperature settings allow the output to be adjusted to clinical requirements while maintaining low noise levels.
The system is compatible with a wide range of blankets, including 34 Calima™ models (sterile and non-sterile) and 8 WarmTouch™ models. These blankets are designed to optimise heat distribution thanks to uniform microperforation and a soft, durable, latex-free polypropylene material. They are tested to resist adhesive tape removal and can accompany the patient from the operating theatre to the recovery phase.
The connection between the blower and the blanket is facilitated by a lightweight, flexible hose with a secure clip connector. This system ensures a reliable attachment while allowing removal without damaging the inlet seal. Pre-cut laces add extra security to keep the blanket in place.
Calima™ is CE certified and complies with IEC 60601-1 (3rd edition), ensuring its safety and reliability in medical environments. It is also equipped with alarms for high temperature, overheating, filter life and filter absence, ensuring continuous monitoring during use.
The Medtronic Calima™ is a comprehensive, high-performance and safe solution for intraoperative thermal management. It combines technology, ease of use and extensive compatibility to meet the needs of healthcare professionals and improve patient comfort.
