Leica CM3050 S: a cryostat designed for long histological cutting sessions
The Leica CM3050 S is a precision instrument developed to meet the demands of research and diagnostic laboratories that handle large numbers of samples on a daily basis. Designed to maintain consistent, reproducible cutting quality throughout the day, it is particularly suitable for professionals who need to produce series of thin sections while preserving tissue integrity. Thanks to its powerful, independent cooling system for the chamber and stage, the CM3050 S ensures perfect temperature control, which is essential when working with complex samples such as adipose tissue or the brain.
Optimised ergonomics for long-lasting working comfort
This model has been designed to reduce user fatigue during long sessions. It has optional electro-hydraulic height adjustment , allowing you to work sitting or standing, depending on your preference. Its legroom and low working height promote a stable sitting position, ensuring optimal comfort throughout the day. The microtome is positioned on the right-hand side, making the hand crank easily accessible for manual cutting, while in motorised mode, the handle can be re-centred to avoid any risk of accidental contact. These features make work smoother and safer, even during repetitive operations.
Organisation, precision and reproducibility for laboratories
The Leica CM3050 S incorporates solutions that facilitate efficient work. Its spacious cryogenic chamber accommodates a freezing plate and tool holder, while easily accessible storage space is provided on top of the unit. Its precise sample orientation system, with 8° adjustment and zero position, combined with 25 mm horizontal travel, ensures optimal positioning, even for large specimens. The automatic section counting option and thickness totaliser allow you to accurately track the number of cuts made, whether in cutting or roughing mode.
Cutting performance and temperature control
The CM3050 S is equipped with a foot-controlled cutting motor, leaving the operator's hands free to handle the sample. The CE blade holder, which provides a flat surface for processing, is laterally adjustable to utilise the entire length of the blade. The thermal stability of the chamber, ensured by high-performance insulating materials and a dedicated cooling system, maintains optimal conditions even during prolonged series.
As an option, the CryoJane Tape-Transfer system improves the quality of frozen sections by producing smooth, intact sections, close to the quality obtained with paraffin embedding, and particularly useful for difficult tissues.
