Precise Culture Condition Control with the Galaxy® 48 S
The Galaxy® 48 S by Eppendorf is a compact CO₂ incubator designed for laboratories seeking reliability, performance, and ease of use. With a usable volume of 48 liters, it fits easily into limited spaces while ensuring uniform and stable conditions for cell culture.
Its internal chamber is heated via a direct-heating system without the use of a fan, providing uniform temperature distribution without generating vibrations. This is particularly beneficial for sensitive applications such as primary cells, fragile cell lines, or microvolume cultures in multiwell plates. Moreover, the absence of air ducts or forced airflow reduces the risk of cross-contamination.
Temperature is controlled by a microprocessor with an accuracy of ± 0.1 °C and a uniformity of ± 0.3 °C. CO₂ concentration is regulated by a humidity-independent infrared sensor, capable of maintaining levels from 0.2% to 20%. An automatic zero calibration function ensures long-term measurement reliability without frequent user intervention. Following a door opening, the incubator can restore CO₂ concentration to 5% in less than 3 minutes.
Relative humidity—essential for preventing sample dehydration—is maintained between 95% and 96% at 37 °C via a 1.5-liter heated water tray. An optical sensor monitors water levels, and an audible alarm can be enabled to alert users when refilling is needed.
The polished stainless-steel chamber is designed for easy cleaning: shelves, racks, and the humidity tray can be removed without tools, allowing quick maintenance and the option for sterilization of components as needed. The Galaxy 48 S also supports a stacking kit, enabling two units to be stacked to optimize floor space without compromising accessibility or safety.
The control interface features a dual LED display (temperature and CO₂) and four programmable keys, ensuring simple operation—even for first-time users. Audible and visual alarms can be set for temperature, CO₂ concentration, prolonged door openings, and humidity levels, providing continuous monitoring of the internal environment.
Whether for culturing human or animal cells or for basic research applications, the Galaxy® 48 S is a practical, robust, and efficient solution for maintaining stable culture conditions—even in the most demanding lab environments.
