Reliable and Scalable Cell Analysis with the BD FACSCalibur™
The BD FACSCalibur™ is a single-channel compact flow cytometer designed to meet the daily needs of cell analysis in research and clinical laboratories. Its design is based on a modular architecture, allowing the system to evolve according to the laboratory’s applications and requirements.
This system features dual-laser technology — an air-cooled argon laser (488 nm) and a red diode laser (~635 nm) — enabling multiparametric analysis and simultaneous detection of multiple fluorochromes. This configuration provides flexibility in fluorochrome selection and minimizes spectral overlap, ensuring reliable and reproducible results.
The BD FACSCalibur supports a wide range of applications, including immunophenotyping, lymphocyte subset counting, stem cell research, DNA analysis, and bead-based multiplex assays (Cytometric Bead Array). It is also well-suited for rare event detection, thanks to a multiparameter triggering system that optimizes acquisition speed while reducing background noise.
The system can be enhanced with optional modules such as the BD FACS™ Loader, which automates tube-based analysis via a 40-tube carousel, or the BD High Throughput Sampler (HTS) for rapid acquisition of samples in 96- or 384-well plates. These options boost productivity while minimizing manual intervention.
The BD FACStation™ workstation offers an intuitive environment for data acquisition, analysis, and management, simplifying instrument setup, protocol tracking, and report generation. The BD FACSComp™ software and BD Calibrite™ beads ensure precise and consistent instrument calibration.
An optional cell sorting feature (for research use only) enables the isolation of target populations in a closed, aerosol-free environment, ensuring safety when handling potentially biohazardous samples.
With its ease of use, expandable capabilities, and rapid, actionable data output, the BD FACSCalibur stands out as a reliable and long-lasting cytometry solution for any laboratory seeking consistent performance and operational flexibility.
