Canon CR-2 Plus AF – Retinal imaging at its best
The Canon CR-2 Plus AF is a non-mydriatic retinal camera designed to meet the growing needs of eye care professionals. It stands out for its exceptional optical and digital performance, intuitive user interface and full integration into clinical workflows.
At the heart of the CR-2 Plus AF is a dedicated 32.5-megapixel sensor developed specifically by Canon for ophthalmic imaging: the EOS Retina. This sensor ensures faithful colour reproduction and image resolution that allows you to see the finest details of the fundus. Thanks to image processing via the DIGIC processor, exposure gradation is precisely controlled. This means that low-light areas, such as the macula, remain visible without overexposing brighter areas such as the optic disc.
One of the key features of the CR-2 Plus AF is its ability to perform fundus autofluorescence imaging (FAF). This technology detects lipofuscin deposits in the retinal pigment epithelium, which is useful for the early diagnosis of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and other eye diseases. Unlike traditional methods, FAF does not require the injection of a dye, making the examination faster and more comfortable for the patient.
The CR-2 Plus AF incorporates numerous automated features that simplify everyday use. These include fast and accurate autofocus, automatic shooting when the distance and focus are optimal, and automatic photometric exposure that adjusts the intensity of the lighting and flash in real time. These features ensure sharp, well-exposed images regardless of pupil size or pigmentation.
In terms of ergonomics, the device features a swivel screen for use while standing or sitting, an electrically assisted multifunction joystick for comfortable control, and a compact design that makes it easy to open the patient's eye with one hand. The robustness of the equipment is supported by its optimised weight of 19.9 kg and its construction in accordance with ISO 9001, ISO 13485 and ISO 14001 standards.
The CR-2 Plus AF works in synergy with Canon's RX software. The latter offers a comprehensive range of diagnostic tools: cup/disc ratio measurement, separate RGB channel viewing, annotations, emboss function, image overlay, time comparison, mosaic creation up to 100°, and association of retinal images with OCT examinations. The software is DICOM-compatible, has anonymisation tools and can be integrated with cloud solutions for optimal data management.
The Canon CR-2 Plus AF is an essential tool for professionals who want to combine image quality, ease of use and diagnostic capabilities. It raises the standards of retinal photography while offering optimal comfort for patients and operators.
