The CSL-UVCAB Maxi UV sterilisation hood from Thistle (Cleaver) Scientific is an optimal solution for molecular biology laboratories wishing to create a sterile, nucleic acid-free working environment, particularly for PCR applications. In polymerase chain reaction (PCR) procedures, even the slightest contamination with nucleic acids can lead to false positive results, compromising the reliability of experiments. To overcome this problem, the CSL-UVCAB offers a sealed working chamber equipped with powerful UV sources capable of effectively inactivating nucleic acids in just a few minutes.

This hood is designed as a cost-effective alternative to clean rooms, while ensuring a high level of decontamination. It works by exposing work surfaces to high-intensity ultraviolet (UV) light, which denatures any DNA and RNA present, rendering genetic contaminants non-amplifiable. The sterilisation process, which lasts between 5 and 30 minutes depending on requirements, is managed by a built-in timer, allowing for controlled and automated operation.

In terms of safety, the CSL-UVCAB incorporates essential devices for user protection. The doors are equipped with safety switches that automatically deactivate the UV lamps when opened, preventing accidental exposure to harmful radiation. In addition, the integrated 15-watt white light ensures excellent visibility when handling samples, making work inside the hood comfortable and precise.
