Baxter's AK 98 – Innovation in dialysis
The Baxter AK 98 dialysis machine embodies a new generation of medical devices designed to meet the growing demands of renal care centres. Combining clinical performance, ease of use and operational efficiency, it enables healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality treatment while reducing logistical and technical constraints.
The AK 98 features an intuitive touchscreen interface that reflects the standard treatment process with a reduced number of buttons, making it easy to configure, monitor and manage sessions. With the Diascan Kt/V function, caregivers can measure treatment adequacy in real time, ensuring that therapeutic goals are achieved.
Two-way IT connectivity based on the HL7 protocol enables seamless integration with hospital IT systems, ensuring secure and centralised patient data management. On-screen graphs continuously display venous and arterial pressures, ultrafiltration rate and Kt/V, providing clear and instant supervision of treatment.
Designed for intensive daily use, the AK 98 incorporates automated disinfection functions (heat, citric acid, CleanCart) and a standby mode for concentrates, reducing resource consumption. It is also compatible with HDx therapies via the Theranova dialyser, enabling effective removal of medium molecules, comparable to HDF, but with the simplicity of HD.
Safety is at the heart of its design, with IEC 60601 compliance, ultrasonic air detection, a 360° alarm system and a 30-minute backup battery. The AK 98 is also equipped for single or double needle modes, with customisable configuration options.
It integrates easily into any clinical environment. By combining the machine with Baxter consumables – BiCart, SoftPac Citrate, CleanCart, Theranova – centres can maximise their therapeutic potential while maintaining optimal operational efficiency.
