Dionex ICS Series VWD variable wavelength detector

The Dionex ICS Series VWD from Thermo Fisher Scientific is a variable wavelength detector designed for ion analysis and liquid chromatography applications requiring UV-Vis detection. Compatible with the Dionex ICS-5000, ICS-2100, ICS-1600, ICS-1100 and ICS-900 systems, it offers a detection range of 190 to 900 nm thanks to its two light sources, a deuterium lamp and a tungsten lamp. Available in single or four-channel versions, it provides accurate and reliable measurements with an internal PEEK construction for excellent chemical compatibility. The Dionex VWD also features an internal wavelength verification system.

Description

Dionex ICS Series VWD: high-performance UV-Vis detection for chromatographic applications

The Dionex ICS Series VWD detector from Thermo Fisher Scientific is specifically designed to meet the needs of chromatographic analysis requiring accurate UV-Visible detection. Featuring an internal PEEK structure, it offers optimal compatibility with demanding sample flows, ensuring reliable laboratory use for routine applications as well as more sophisticated research analyses.

The Dionex VWD is equipped with two separate light sources: a deuterium lamp for ultraviolet wavelengths and a tungsten lamp for detection in the visible and near-infrared range. This configuration provides an extended detection range from 190 to 900 nm, suitable for many types of analysis. Available in single-channel or four-channel versions, the Dionex VWD offers increased analysis flexibility, capable of simultaneously measuring multiple wavelengths with data collection rates of up to 100 Hz for the multi-channel version.

The system incorporates a dual-beam photometer, ensuring baseline stability and high detection sensitivity. Calibration and wavelength verification are facilitated by an internal holmium oxide filter, enabling fast and reliable validation without external intervention.

The detector is configured and managed via Chromeleon 7 or 6.8 software, offering control, diagnostic and predictive maintenance functions. The integrated Wellness system monitors critical parameters such as lamp intensity and flow cell status, alerting the user in the event of drift or maintenance requirements.

For increased efficiency, the Dionex VWD offers two optional flow cell types: a standard 11 µL cell suitable for columns with an internal diameter of 3 to 4 mm, and a 2.5 µL semi-micro cell designed for microbore columns. Each cell is equipped with an on-board identification system that records serial and usage information for accurate tracking.

In terms of connectivity, the detector features USB ports for integration with computer systems, as well as digital and analogue inputs/outputs for extended compatibility with various laboratory instruments.

Robust, accurate and easy to integrate into different analytical environments, the Dionex ICS Series VWD is a reliable asset for laboratories seeking to ensure high-quality results with rigorous performance monitoring over time.
