Description

Gene Pulser MXcell™: A High-Performance System for Optimizing Cell Transfection

The Gene Pulser MXcell™ electroporation system from Bio-Rad is designed to provide researchers with a complete and reliable solution that meets the highest standards for gene transfer and cell transfection. With its innovative configuration, the system delivers precisely controlled electrical pulses using both exponential decay and square waveforms. This flexibility allows fine-tuning of pulse parameters for a wide range of cell types, ensuring optimal transfection efficiency while maintaining excellent cell viability—even for primary and hard-to-transfect cells.

Adapted for both high-throughput screening and standard laboratory applications, the Gene Pulser MXcell™ is compatible with 96-, 24-, and 12-well electroporation plates. These single-use sterile plates are RNase- and DNase-free, providing highly consistent results with minimal variability from well to well and across plates. This level of consistency is essential for ensuring reproducibility in scientific experiments. The system also supports the ShockPod™ chamber, which enables the use of traditional cuvettes for single-sample electroporation protocols.

At the core of the system is a powerful power module that delivers fast, controlled pulses. It features an intuitive interface that allows users to program custom protocols, generate voltage, duration, or capacitance gradients, and automatically store data from the last 100 experiments. Each user can easily create, adjust, and reuse settings with just a few steps. A built-in safety interlock prevents pulse delivery if the chamber lid is open, ensuring safe operation at all times.

Thanks to its efficiency and optimized performance, the Gene Pulser MXcell™ allows researchers to reduce reagent and cell usage while achieving outstanding results. Studies on Jurkat cells demonstrated more than 88% gene knockdown following siRNA transfection—outperforming competitor systems. Additionally, it can process an entire 96-well plate in under two minutes, saving valuable time and significantly boosting productivity in busy laboratory environments.

The Gene Pulser MXcell™ is a key laboratory instrument for researchers who value performance, flexibility, and precision. Whether conducting high-throughput screening, tackling complex transfection workflows, or developing new protocols, this system is a dependable and efficient partner for demanding cell research.
