Leica EM UC7 – Precision ultramicrotome for specimen preparation in microscopy
The Leica EM UC7 is designed to meet the most stringent requirements for sample preparation for optical microscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Thanks to high-precision mechanics and an ergonomic layout, it enables semi-fine and ultra-fine cuts of impeccable quality and perfectly polished surfaces. The system incorporates a patented eucentric movement for approaching the sample and the knife, whether glass or diamond, ensuring precise and reproducible positioning.
Comfort and ergonomics for extended use
Ergonomics is at the heart of the Leica EM UC7 design. The user benefits from an adaptable workstation, integrated armrests and ideally positioned controls, reducing fatigue even after several hours of use. The Leica M80 stereomicroscope, combined with the ErgoWedge accessory, allows the height and tilt to be adjusted to suit each operator's morphology. The adjustable-intensity LED illumination, including additional spot lighting, optimises visibility for delicate operations such as knife cleaning or cryogenic sectioning.
Integrated technology and intuitive control
All functions of the Leica EM UC7, as well as the EM FC7 cryogenic chamber and EM CRION ioniser, are controlled via a 7-inch touchscreen. The interface offers programmable sequences, user recognition and the ability to store up to 100 profiles including sample, knife and section parameters. Data transfer via USB enables paperless electronic reporting. The motorised knife holder, combined with the patented AutoTrim function, allows automatic roughing, leaving the operator free to concentrate on other tasks.
Versatility with specialised accessories
The Leica EM UC7 can be supplemented with the EM FC7 cryogenic chamber for low-temperature preparation. This offers several cryo modes, optimised LED lighting and heated walls to prevent frost formation. Combined with the EM CRION antistatic system and the optional micromanipulator, it becomes a powerful tool for cryogenic sectioning of sensitive materials, with reduced electrostatic charges and precise section collection.
