Dräger Fabius® plus XL: the modular, safe and high-performance anaesthesia station for demanding operating theatres
Designed to meet the complex needs of modern operating environments, the Dräger Fabius® plus XL embodies the perfect combination of reliability, ergonomics, scalability and ventilation performance. This high-end anaesthesia station incorporates a high-precision electronic piston ventilator, ensuring controlled, stable ventilation independent of a pressurised gas supply, making it an essential asset for anaesthetic care for all types of patients.
Its modular design allows the station to be adapted to the specific needs of each institution or specialty. The trolley can be configured in a standard or high version, or mounted on the wall or ceiling, saving space and offering exceptional flexibility in the layout of the operating theatre. Three large storage drawers provide quick access to consumables, and the first shelf can accommodate a Scio gas measurement module. Two integrated medical electrical outlets and a retractable or fold-down worktop complete the device's ergonomic design.
In terms of performance, the Fabius® plus XL offers high-quality ventilation in controlled or assisted modes. Available modes include volume ventilation (VC), pressure ventilation (PCV), pressure support (PS), manual ventilation, spontaneous or synchronised ventilation (SIMV/PS). Fine adjustments include tidal volume from 20 to 1,400 mL, inspiratory flow, PEEP, adjustable I:E ratio, inspiratory pressure and inspiratory support trigger. Everything is monitored by a clear, intuitive 10.4-inch TFT colour screen that is easy to read from all angles, including in night mode.
Patient safety is at the heart of the design. An oxygen-sensitive ratio controller (S-ORC) ensures a minimum oxygen concentration of 23% in N₂O/O₂ mixtures. The system detects drops in O₂ pressure and automatically cuts off the nitrous oxide supply if necessary. In the event of a power failure, manual ventilation and the delivery of gases and anaesthetic agents remain possible thanks to mechanical backup devices. High and low pressure relief valves provide additional protection.
The station supports up to two Dräger or Selectatec® vaporisers and offers a gas measurement module (O₂, CO₂, N₂O, halogenated agents) with curve and value display. Connectivity is provided by RS-232 ports compatible with Vitalink and MEDIBUS protocols for seamless integration into the operating theatre monitoring system.
