The G1170A: Valve control for flexible liquid chromatography
Agilent's G1170A, also known as the 1290 Infinity III Valve Drive, is a device designed to provide precise, automated valve control in high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) systems. As part of the InfinityLab LC Series, this module maximises the flexibility of analytical configurations by integrating multiple functions via motorised valve control.
The G1170A is fully compatible with all Agilent Quick Change valve heads, whether standard, biocompatible or bio-inert. This compatibility ensures a wide range of applications, from multiple column selection and solvent selection to sample enrichment and alternate column regeneration.
One of the strengths of the G1170A is its intelligent valve recognition system. Thanks to an RFID tag integrated into each head, the module automatically identifies the valve type, its maximum pressure and its specific properties. This feature helps prevent configuration errors and ensures increased safety, particularly in the event of overpressure.
Mechanically, the G1170A is designed to be easily mounted on the left or right of an LC stack, or on a column organiser (ref. G1383A). It has an integrated power supply and a leak sensor is positioned directly under the valve head, ensuring immediate detection of potential leaks. If a leak is detected, the system can automatically stop the analysis to prevent damage to the instrument.
The module also offers a software interface for configuring valve switching methods, defining time programmes and creating pressure clusters to avoid excessive stress on components. It is fully compatible with Agilent software environments such as Lab Advisor and OpenLab CDS.
Easy to install and maintain, the G1170A helps automate chromatography workflows while ensuring consistent reliability and accuracy. It is therefore ideal for modern laboratories seeking to optimise their analytical performance and operational flexibility.
