Description

Accurate UV detection and optimal performance with the G1314B Agilent 1260 Infinity Variable Wavelength Detector

The G1314B Agilent 1260 Infinity is a high-performance variable wavelength detector (VWD) designed for high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) applications. This dual-beam detector has been designed to offer high detection accuracy across a wide spectral range from 190 to 600 nm. It uses a deuterium lamp as its light source, providing stable intensity and excellent optical linearity, making it an essential tool for demanding quantitative analyses.

Its advanced optical architecture is based on a system comprising spherical mirrors, a fast-rotating diffraction grating for wavelength selection, and a beam splitter that directs the light to two photodiodes: one for the sample and one for the reference. This dual configuration automatically compensates for fluctuations in light intensity, ensuring signal stability and enhanced sensitivity.

One of the main advantages of the G1314B is its great flexibility thanks to the different types of flow cells available. Whether standard, high-pressure, semi-micro or micro cells, each configuration is designed to meet specific requirements in terms of volume, pressure and analytical resolution. This modularity makes it easy to adapt to a wide range of applications, from routine dosing to complex analyses of low concentrations.

In terms of performance, this detector offers low noise levels (<± 0.5·10⁻⁵ AU at 254 nm), excellent drift (<3·10⁻⁴ AU/h), and high wavelength accuracy (±1 nm) thanks to auto-calibration via the deuterium lamp and verification using the built-in holmium oxide filter. It also provides linearity beyond 2 AU. The maximum data rate reaches 13 Hz, which is sufficient for standard HPLC applications. The instrument also allows real-time visualization of UV spectra and features a comprehensive set of built-in diagnostics, including noise, drift, dark current, and calibration tests.

The G1314B also stands out for its ease of maintenance. The lamp or flow cell can be replaced quickly thanks to front access, limiting downtime. It also features a leak detection system and secure solvent and waste management, ensuring safe use. Compliant with good laboratory practice (GLP), it includes usage monitoring (lamp burn time) and preventive notification (EMF – Early Maintenance Feedback) functions.

Designed for seamless integration into Agilent 1200/1260 LC systems, it is compatible with Agilent ChemStation and Lab Advisor software, providing centralised configuration, monitoring and diagnostics.
