Agilent G2258A: A Versatile Automatic Sampler for Preparative and Analytical HPLC
Agilent's G2258A automatic sampler, part of the 1200 series, has been specially designed to meet the needs of high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) applications in preparative mode. Its dual-loop architecture offers a solution that maximises flexibility and productivity while ensuring high-level analytical performance.
One of the major advantages of the G2258A is its ability to handle two sampling loops of different volumes, allowing for seamless switching between preparative and analytical analyses without having to physically replace components. This saves considerable time in high-throughput laboratories and minimises the risk of human error.
Operation is based on a fixed loop injection system combined with an external dosing syringe that is not directly integrated into the solvent circuit. This configuration allows precise injection of the desired volume, while reducing cross-contamination thanks to an automatic needle rinsing and washing system. The entire sample path can be effectively purged using suitable solvents, significantly reducing carryover to less than 0.1%.
The G2258A offers two injection modes: partial loop filling and full loop filling. Partial filling is ideal for limited samples, while full filling, with a configurable overfill factor, ensures excellent peak area accuracy, particularly useful for rigorous quantifications. These options are easily configurable via Agilent ChemStation software.
Compatible with a wide variety of well plates, vials and Eppendorf tubes, the G2258A allows flexible sample loading. A thermostatic module (ref. G1330B) can also be added to maintain samples at a controlled temperature between 4 and 40°C.
Robust, reliable and intuitive, the G2258A automatic sampler is an essential tool for any preparative purification or analytical research laboratory requiring reproducible, high-precision injections. Its modular design, compatibility with flow rates up to 100 ml/min, and integrated diagnostic and maintenance functions make it a strategic choice for HPLC applications.
