Aesculap GA176 Flexible Cable: Flexible and secure power transmission for neurosurgery
The GA176 flexible cable designed by Aesculap is a critical component in the Elan-E motorised craniotomy system. Used in neurosurgery, particularly for cutting the skull using specific perforators and craniotomes, this cable plays a pivotal role in transmitting mechanical energy from the motor to the hand-held surgical instruments. Its flexible design allows for smooth handling in the surgical environment while ensuring a solid and secure connection. Manufactured to rigorous medical quality standards, the GA176 not only guarantees patient and practitioner safety, but also consistent and reliable performance over time.
With a length of 180 cm, the GA176 offers generous manoeuvrability, reducing positioning constraints during procedures. It is designed to be easily connected on one side to the Elan-E motor and on the other to a wide range of handpieces, such as perforators (GB169) or craniotomes (GB265), via standardised connectors in accordance with DIN 13940. This modular system allows for quick interchangeability of instruments, promoting efficiency and smooth surgical procedures.
Another key feature of the GA176 is its compatibility with standard operating theatre sterilisation cycles. The cable can be sterilised in a steam autoclave (high-pressure cycle at 270°F or gravity cycle at 250°F), making it easy to reintegrate into the strict aseptic protocols required in neurosurgery. Aesculap recommends that this cable should never be subjected to tight kinks, as this may damage the inner sheath and cause abnormal vibrations during use.
To ensure the longevity of the equipment, regular maintenance is required: monthly lubrication of the connectors with GA059 special oil is recommended.
The GA176 combines performance, compatibility and safety. It integrates into a modular craniotomy system designed for the rigours of the operating theatre.
