Hamilton 81100 syringe: a precision solution for laboratory applications
The 81100 syringe developed by Hamilton Medical is the solution of choice for laboratories that require flawless precision in the transfer of small volumes of liquids. Designed specifically for research, chemical analysis and biotechnology environments, it combines robustness, performance and reliability, while meeting recognised industry quality standards.
The 81100 model is a Gastight syringe, i.e. gas-tight, which allows it to be used in applications involving volatile liquids or pressurised gases. Its useful volume of 250 µL makes it ideal for precise dosing in demanding experimental protocols. The syringe body is made of borosilicate glass, a material known for its thermal and chemical resistance, which guarantees sample integrity. Combined with a PTFE piston and a stainless steel needle, this configuration ensures a smooth, inert and stable flow path.
The needle is a Cemented Needle permanently fixed to the Luer tip, with an outer diameter of 0.72 mm (22s gauge) and a length of 51 mm. Its style 2 (beveled) curved tip allows for optimised penetration through septa without causing significant deformation, making it particularly suitable for split/splitless injections in gas chromatography. In this type of procedure, the syringe allows for rapid injection into a heated vaporiser, ensuring instant volatilisation of the sample.
The 81100 syringe cannot be autoclaved, but it can be sterilised by gas, which is suitable for laboratories looking for alternative sterilisation processes. It can withstand a maximum pressure of 500 psig (34.5 bar) and operates within a temperature range of 10 to 50°C. The low dead volume of the needle (1.13 µL) significantly reduces sample loss, which is a key advantage in costly or low-volume analyses.
Its careful manufacture and compatibility with a wide range of solvents make it a versatile, reliable and durable tool.
