GS-900 Densitometer + ImageLab Software

The Bio-Rad GS-900™ calibrated densitometer is a high-performance imaging system designed for quantitative analysis of gels and membranes by transmission or reflection. Featuring NIST-traceable internal calibration, a large scan area (29 x 33 cm), and 16-bit image acquisition, it offers exceptional accuracy in optical density quantification. When combined with Image Lab™ software, it enables automated, flexible and reproducible acquisition and analysis of electrophoresis data. Ideal for molecular biology and proteomics research, this system guarantees reliable and traceable results.

Description

GS-900™ Calibrated Densitometer + ImageLab Software: Excellence in gel and membrane image quantification

The Bio-Rad GS-900™ Calibrated Densitometer is a state-of-the-art instrument designed for research laboratories that require accurate and reproducible analysis of polyacrylamide gels, films and transfer membranes. With its dual transmission and reflection scanning capabilities , this device offers optimal flexibility for a wide range of applications in molecular biology and biochemistry, including Western blot analysis, Coomassie- or silver-stained SDS-PAGE gels, and DNA gels.

This densitometer is calibrated using an internal standard traceable to NIST, ensuring the accuracy and repeatability of optical density measurements. With each acquisition, calibration is automatically performed using an integrated photographic standard (film for transmissive scans or paper for reflective scans), allowing direct correlation between the detected light intensity and known optical density values. This method ensures optimal accuracy, even under the most demanding conditions of use.

The system offers a wide dynamic range of up to 3.4 OD in transmissive mode and 2.7 OD in reflective mode, allowing very weak signals to be detected while avoiding saturation of intense signals. Imaging is performed with a depth of 16 bits, ensuring a wealth of information per pixel. The user can select the scanning resolution according to their experimental needs, between 36.3 and 127.0 µm.

The Image Lab™ software allows you to control the instrument, acquire images, configure custom protocols, perform automatic band and molecular weight analysis, and generate custom reports. Its intuitive interface also allows for quick previewing, adjustment of the scanning frame, and access to predefined or customisable applications depending on the sample type and dye.

In terms of connectivity, the GS-900™ connects via USB to a Windows PC, ensuring seamless integration into research computing environments. Its robust and compact design (63 x 38 x 19 cm, weighing 16 kg) allows for easy bench-top installation.

The GS-900™ is also designed for minimal maintenance. The scanning surfaces are easy to clean with 70% ethanol, and an integrated recalibration programme ensures optimal performance over the long term.

This densitometer is a strategic choice for laboratories requiring accurate analysis, complete traceability and long-term reliability in the quantitative evaluation of biological macromolecules.
