Description

HeartStart XL+: A State-of-the-Art Defibrillator for Cardiac Emergencies

The Philips HeartStart XL+ Defibrillator/Monitor is an essential piece of equipment for healthcare professionals working in stressful and chaotic hospital environments. Designed specifically for resuscitation teams and rapid response teams, this defibrillator offers significant innovations that enable confidential and effective response to patients in cardiac emergency situations.

One of the key features of the HeartStart XL+ is its user interface, which is similar to that of other Philips defibrillators/monitors and the brand's automatic external defibrillators (AEDs). This consistency makes it easy to use and allows for a smooth transition between different devices, reducing training time and associated costs. In addition, the HeartStart XL+ uses the same cables and accessories as the HeartStart MRx and Philips patient monitors, simplifying inventory management and reducing costs.

The HeartStart XL+ is always ready to meet your organisation's needs thanks to its scalable platform. You can choose the features that best suit your staff's needs. The defibrillator is equipped with a visual "ready to use" indicator and LEDs on the front of the device that indicate the power status, allowing clinicians to quickly verify that the device is ready for use.

In AED mode, the HeartStart XL+ is easy to use for almost anyone. It automatically analyses and charges for a potentially life-saving shock in seconds, guiding the user with clear voice instructions and on-screen prompts. HeartStart Adult/Child or Infant defibrillation electrodes are designed for manual and AED modes, as well as for pacing, cardioversion and monitoring, without the need for special electrodes for infant/child AED mode.

The HeartStart XL+ is also equipped with Philips' SMART biphasic technology, which uses real-time impedance compensation to adjust and deliver personalised electrical medication for each patient with every shock. This technology has been rigorously studied and is supported by published, peer-reviewed data demonstrating its effectiveness for patients in prolonged cardiac arrest as well as those considered "difficult to treat."

In addition to defibrillation, the HeartStart XL+ offers effective synchronised cardioversion and non-invasive pacing. Synchronised cardioversion is activated by the user at the touch of a button, and non-invasive pacing is easy to perform using the frequency and output controls on the front panel.

The HeartStart XL+ also simplifies defibrillation for infants and children. In AED mode, it is the only defibrillator/monitor capable of defibrillating any patient, regardless of weight, without the need for special accessories. This saves valuable time during emergency response. By simply pressing the patient category button, the defibrillation energy is automatically reduced for infants and children.

To support a culture of continuous improvement and excellence within your hospital, the HeartStart XL+ and Philips data management solutions are designed to capture and store complete events for post-event review by resuscitation or rapid response teams. Post-resuscitation reports can be easily shared with other clinicians as needed.

Philips offers a variety of training and education solutions using sound instructional design principles to ensure competent use of the device, as well as support for your training and implementation needs in a cost-effective manner. These solutions include interactive web-based training programmes, instructor toolkits, instructor-led training and instructional videos.

Features

  • Visual "ready to use" indicator: Indicates that the device has passed its last self-test and is ready for use.
  • Automated self-tests: Performed hourly, daily and weekly to simplify shift changeovers and free up time for clinicians.
  • AED mode: Easy to use for almost any responder, automatically analyses and charges for a potentially life-saving shock in seconds.
  • HeartStart defibrillation electrodes: Designed for manual and AED modes, as well as for pacing, cardioversion and monitoring, without the need for special electrodes for infant/child AED mode.
  • Green front lights: Indicate AC power and battery status, eliminating the need for staff to check that the AC power cord is connected or to charge batteries separately.
  • Multi-colour display: Allows easy viewing of up to 3 waveforms, numeric values and alarm limits in the parameter bar, as well as patient status information.
  • Single therapy button: Similar to other Philips defibrillators/monitors for turning the device on/off, as well as selecting mode and energy.
  • 3-step defibrillation: Select energy, press the charge button to charge the defibrillator, press the shock button to deliver therapy.
  • Integrated ECG rhythm strip recorder: Documents ECG rhythm strips, clinical events, event summary reports, vital sign trends, operational checks, configuration, status logs, 3- and 5-lead ECG reports, and other device information.
  • Philips SMART Biphasic Therapy: Uses real-time impedance compensation to adjust and deliver customised electrical medication for each patient with each shock.
  • Synchronised cardioversion: Activated by the user with the push of a button, with biphasic synchronised cardioversion capabilities supported by peer-reviewed evidence.
