The ICS-3000 from Thermo Fisher Scientific is an ion chromatography system designed to meet the most demanding requirements for ion analysis in complex matrices. Its modular structure offers remarkable flexibility, allowing the configuration to be adapted to specific applications. Thanks to its Reagent-Free IC (RFIC) technology, users benefit from a simplified process where elution is automatically generated from deionised water, significantly reducing preparation tasks and the risk of errors associated with manual handling of solutions. Integrated self-regenerating suppression ensures increased stability and analytical accuracy, even during prolonged analyses.
The ICS-3000 design incorporates key modules such as the Dual Pump (DP) or Single Pump (SP), capable of delivering precise flow rates from 0.001 to 10.0 mL/min with pressures up to 35 MPa (5000 psi). The dual pump allows simultaneous or sequential analyses, optimising analysis time and increasing throughput. Pumping options include isocratic for a single eluent or gradient capable of handling up to four eluents with precise composition control, offering a wide variety of elution profiles for different methods.
The ICS-3000 detection module includes a thermostated chromatography compartment that can accommodate a conductivity detector, an electrochemical detector, or both. The conductivity detector provides sensitive measurement with a signal range up to 15,000 µS, while the electrochemical detector allows specific analyses using different working electrodes (gold, platinum, silver, glassy carbon). The system is therefore suitable for a wide range of applications, including the analysis of anions, cations, carbohydrates, organic acids and many other analytes.
Thermal stability is an essential factor in obtaining reproducible results. The ICS-3000 incorporates a thermoelectrically controlled thermal compartment , allowing adjustment from 5 to 85 °C with an accuracy of ±0.5 °C and a stability of ±0.1 °C. This capability ensures optimal conditions for the columns and detectors, improving measurement resolution and fidelity.
The system is compatible with a wide range of accessories and additional modules, such as the AS or AS40 automatic sampler for sample injection, the Eluent Generator(EG) for automated solution production, and the Automation Manager for high and low pressure valve control. The system is controlled via the Chromeleon software, which provides complete supervision of analysis parameters, from data acquisition to report generation.
