K-425: Fast and Flexible Digestion for Demanding Laboratories
The Büchi K-425 is a compact infrared digestion system designed to meet the daily needs of analytical laboratories performing Kjeldahl digestion. It enables fast, reproducible, and safe sample processing in an ergonomic, space-saving format. With a capacity of 5 to 6 samples depending on the tube size used (100 mL, 300 mL, or 500 mL), the K-425 is an ideal solution for laboratories handling medium sample volumes.
Its infrared heating system ensures direct and efficient thermal transfer to the samples, significantly reducing digestion time. Thanks to rapid heating and cooling phases, the entire process can be completed in under two hours while ensuring optimal thermal homogeneity across all tubes. This helps prevent foaming and guarantees the reproducibility of results, even for sensitive samples.
The K-425 is particularly suited for the determination of total Kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN) and protein content, but is also compatible with a variety of applications such as chemical oxygen demand (COD), heavy metal analysis, hydroxyproline quantification, and aqua regia digestions. Its flexibility is enhanced by compatibility with multiple tube types and suction modules. Some modules are specifically designed for aqueous samples (with a condensate trap), while others allow the addition of hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) to accelerate the digestion process.
For enhanced safety, the K-425 features a sealed suction module that captures acidic fumes released during digestion. These are neutralized by the K-415 Scrubber, ensuring a clean, compliant, and safe working environment. This also protects the fume hood, extending its service life.
