Nikon ECLIPSE TS2-FL: Compact Inverted Microscope for Epifluorescence Observation
The Nikon ECLIPSE TS2-FL inverted microscope is designed to meet the needs of laboratories performing fluorescence imaging and various optical contrast techniques. Thanks to its integrated LED illumination system and compact construction, it fits seamlessly into cell culture environments while ensuring reliable, stable, and reproducible observations.
One of the key features of the TS2-FL lies in its dual integrated illumination: diascopic for brightfield and phase contrast imaging, and epifluorescence for fluorescent marker visualization. Both LED light sources are built into the microscope body, reducing setup time and allowing users to focus on data acquisition. The LED is alignment-free, eliminating the need for tedious adjustments and reducing the risk of errors.
The microscope supports up to three fluorescence filter cubes, enabling rapid switching between different wavelengths without needing to readjust the light intensity. This feature is enhanced by an intensity memory system, which automatically restores the previously used light level when returning to the same wavelength. This saves valuable time and ensures consistent results, which is critical for long-term experimental monitoring.
In terms of ergonomics, the controls are intuitively positioned: switching between illumination modes is straightforward, buttons are placed within easy reach, and contrast modules (Phase, APC, Emboss) can be changed with a simple slide mechanism. The side camera port is ideal for work inside laminar flow hoods, providing optimal sample visibility without obstruction.
On the imaging side, the TS2-FL stands out for its contrast versatility. It supports standard phase contrast, advanced Apodized Phase Contrast (APC) to minimize halo artifacts in thick samples such as dividing cells, and Nikon’s proprietary Emboss Contrast, which offers pseudo-relief imaging without reflections.
Its robust, anti-vibration structure ensures sharp observations even at high magnification. The system is compatible with a wide variety of sample holders, including Petri dishes, Terasaki plates, glass slides, culture chambers, and hemocytometers. For temperature-controlled applications, the microscope can be paired with the ThermoPlate® TPi-TS2X (optional accessory), which maintains samples at up to 50°C.
The Nikon ECLIPSE TS2-FL is an ideal solution for routine fluorescence applications in cell biology research, live cell culture, and fluorescent marker analysis. Compact, quiet, and precise, it combines ease of use with optical versatility.
