JS-13.1: The high-performance swing-bucket rotor for analytical and preparative centrifugation
The Beckman Coulter JS-13.1 is a swinging bucket rotor specifically designed to meet the rigorous requirements of centrifugation applications in biomedical, pharmaceutical and research laboratories. Compatible with Beckman Coulter J2, J6 and Avanti J series centrifuges, it is a versatile solution for cell, subcellular or tissue separation protocols, thanks to its ability to efficiently process up to six 50 mL tubes at a maximum speed of 13,000 rpm.
This rotor is capable of generating a relative centrifugal force (RCF) of 26,500×g at its maximum radius (140 mm), enabling it to process even the most complex samples with remarkable speed and precision. Whether for pellet recovery or density gradient separations, the JS-13.1 guarantees reliable and reproducible results. Its particularly low k-factor of 1841 indicates a short sedimentation time, which is advantageous for rapid centrifugation methods.
Made of anodised aluminium, the rotor is both lightweight and extremely corrosion-resistant, especially when properly maintained with the recommended products. It also features a blue anodised lid, which is securely fastened with a central knob that attaches to the centrifuge hub. The design allows for effective mechanical locking and increased stability during acceleration and deceleration phases.
The structure of the JS-13.1 also guarantees excellent safety: the lid stays in place thanks to the difference in air pressure generated during rotation, and the cups tilt 90° to keep the samples horizontal during centrifugation. The rotor is designed to work with a wide variety of tubes, including polycarbonate, polypropylene or polyethylene tubes of different volumes (1.5 mL to 50 mL), with or without caps. It also accepts specific tubes with adapters, further enhancing its flexibility of use.
Each component is designed to maximise the longevity of the assembly while ensuring user safety. The rotor is ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 certified. It is also autoclavable at 121°C for one hour and can be cleaned with specific solutions without damaging its anodised coating. In addition, Beckman Coulter recommends the exclusive use of certified accessories to guarantee the performance and safety of the device.
Operational aspects are also simplified: the rotor can be pre-cooled before use, its installation on the centrifuge hub is assisted by a lifting tool provided, and it can be used with or without its lid (at the cost of a loss of performance in terms of temperature and speed). It is also compatible with the temperature compensation functions of the J2 and J6 models, which maintain a precise sample temperature even at high speeds.
The JS-13.1 is a robust, high-performance and adaptable rotor that is the benchmark choice for laboratories seeking efficiency, safety and precision in their centrifugation protocols.
