The Ferris Smith Kerrison Instrument is a specialized device used by neurosurgeons to delicately remove small bone fragments, primarily from the vertebral lamina, in order to alleviate pressure on the spinal cord.
Featuring adjustable tip angles at 90° and 130°, along with a clamp-type handle ensuring optimal control, this tool presents various surgical advantages. Its primary objective is to provide a non-traumatic method for hollowing out the lamina bone, thereby facilitating effective decompression of the spinal cord and nerves.
To achieve this, the instrument is equipped with a biting tip, with sizes ranging from 1.0 to 6.0 mm, allowing adaptation to different vertebral sizes. Additionally, the tip is available in multiple angles, enabling surgeons to select based on the targeted region.
The handle also incorporates a spring mechanism ensuring a smooth closure of the tip. Furthermore, its back end features a horn providing stable support to prevent slippage.
