Kjeltec™ 8400: precision, autonomy and reliability for Kjeldahl analysis
The Kjeltec™ 8400 from FOSS is a high-performance solution for laboratories that want to perform Kjeldahl analyses in an automated, reliable and safe manner. Designed for the determination of nitrogen and protein in food, feed, agricultural products and animal meal, this model is easy to use and offers proven efficiency. In addition to the automatic distillation functions already found on previous models in the 8000 series, the Kjeltec™ 8400 incorporates a fully automated colorimetric titration module for accurate endpoint detection, with integrated result calculation and computer management via Compass software.
This technology provides users with long-term stability, a wide working range (0.1 to 200 mg N) and considerable time savings without the need for frequent recalibration of the instrument. Maintenance is also easy: the titration cell cleans itself automatically after each cycle, ensuring a clean system and reducing manual handling. The interchangeable burette allows for quick titrant changes, and the system effectively limits air bubble formation, optimising performance right from the start.
In terms of safety, the Kjeltec™ 8400 is equipped with patented SAfE (Steam Addition for Equilibration) technology, which minimises exothermic reactions between acid and base. The device can only operate when the safety door is closed with a tube in place, limiting risks to the operator. Sensors continuously check the presence of tubes, reagent levels, distillate temperature and steam boiler pressure.
Connected to a PC via an Ethernet interface, the Kjeltec™ 8400 allows for optimal data recording and traceability. With Compass software, samples can be recorded, tracked and results easily exported to a LIMS system or printed.
To adapt to changing needs, the Kjeltec™ 8400 is compatible with the Kjeltec™ 8420 (20 tubes) and 8460 (60 tubes) autosamplers, allowing unattended operation for more than four hours. The system is therefore scalable, capable of supporting a growing volume of analyses while maintaining rigour and reproducibility.
