NIDEK LM-1000: Advanced Automatic Lensometer for Precise Eyeglass Power Measurement and Lens Verification
The NIDEK LM-1000 automatic lensometer provides the capability to measure the optical power of eyeglass lenses, whether they are single vision, bifocal (trifocal), progressive, or contact lenses. It consists of a measurement unit and a front display unit. The measurement unit includes a lens holder, a frame support bar, a lens holding piece, and a lens marker. A reading button beneath the lens holder allows for the freezing of measured values.
The display unit features a fully graphic liquid crystal display (LCD) screen that shows the measured values, the alignment status of the lens, and the device settings. To facilitate measurements in a seated or standing position, the device's orientation can be adjusted by 30° using the function keys surrounding the screen.
Key features of the device include measuring the zone, i.e., objective refraction, at various positions of an instantaneous lens. It eases and enhances precision by detecting variations in the objective refraction of a progressive lens, automatically changing the measurement mode after detecting a progressive lens. The device also measures ultraviolet ray transmission (UV-A, wavelength 365 nm).
The measurement procedure is streamlined and expedited with automatic functions for reading, right or left lens selection, and addition measurement. Additionally, it can be connected to a microcomputer via a USB interface in addition to the RS-232C interface, the standard communication protocol for NIDEK optometric devices. Moreover, it adopts a marker suitable for lenses with hydrophobic or ultra-hydrophobic surface treatments.
This device is used to measure vertex powers and prismatic effects of eyeglass lenses or contact lenses, align and mark an uncut lens, and verify if a lens is correctly mounted in an eyeglass frame.
