M3015A Measurement Server Extension: CO₂ respiratory measurement solution for clinical monitoring
The Philips M3015A Measurement Server Extension is a measurement server extension specifically designed to enhance the capabilities of IntelliVue systems by adding sidestream respiratory carbon dioxide (CO₂) monitoring and a second invasive pressure and temperature channel. This device is intended for use in hospitals or during patient transport, on adult, paediatric or neonatal patients, whether intubated or not.
Using sidestream technology, the M3015A continuously samples exhaled gas from the patient using an internal pumping system. This gas is analysed by non-dispersive infrared absorption to accurately detect the concentration of CO₂. The device displays a CO₂ curve in real time , along with digital measurements such as end-tidal CO₂ (EtCO₂), respiratory rate (AwRR) and minimum inspiratory CO₂ (ImCO₂). These parameters are essential for assessing the patient's ventilation and overall respiratory status, particularly in critical care or anaesthesia.
This module features gas interference correction (N₂O and O₂), humidity correction (BTPS/STPD), and a "Max Hold" function that displays the maximum and minimum values during a 10- or 20-second time window. Measurement accuracy is enhanced by integrated pressure and temperature sensors to compensate for environmental variations.
In terms of hardware, the M3015A includes dedicated components such as a pump system, an infrared sensor, a temperature sensor, detectors, an analogue-to-digital converter, and an embedded controller that processes data before transmitting it to the monitor via the FELP (Frontend Link Protocol). The user interface is simple, integrated into the monitor, and allows for quick configuration of settings and alarms.
It also offers the ability to store patient data over a 4-hour period, with graphical or tabular display via the monitor. The extension supports continuity of settings when moving a patient from one monitor to another, saving time and ensuring consistency in monitoring.
Compatible with Microstream FilterLine accessories, it meets continuous monitoring needs in a variety of conditions, whether in the operating theatre, emergency room, or post-operative care. It integrates easily into the IntelliVue environment, enhancing monitor capabilities without adding complexity for clinicians.
