Thermo Fisher Scientific Mars 1800: a high-performance microbiological safety cabinet
The Mars 1800 from Thermo Fisher Scientific is a Class II microbiological safety cabinet developed to meet the highest standards of protection in laboratory environments. In accordance with European standard EN 12469, this model guarantees triple protection: for the user, the product being handled and the working environment. This level of safety is ensured by vertical laminar airflow, a highly efficient HEPA filtration system and a design that minimises turbulence and the risk of cross-contamination.
With its generous dimensions (1800 mm working chamber width), the Mars 1800 allows for comfortable handling of materials and samples on a work surface divided into six sections. Its AISI 304 stainless steel tray, also available in AISI 316, offers robustness and ease of cleaning, ensuring hygienic and durable working conditions. The tempered glass side walls and laminated safety glass front ensure visibility, strength and safety.
The efficiency of the Mars 1800 is enhanced by precise aerodynamic performance: a downward air speed of 0.28 m/s and a front suction speed of 0.45 m/s. These parameters, factory calibrated to current standards, ensure a stable air barrier and optimal containment. The extraction flow rate of 583 m³/h maintains constant and controlled air renewal. The filtration system is based on two H14 class HEPA filters (according to EN 1822-1), with an option to upgrade to U17 filters on the MARS PRO model.
User comfort has not been overlooked. The Mars 1800 stands out for its particularly low noise level, which is less than or equal to 52 dB(A) in standard operation and reduced to 39 dB(A) in Eco-Save mode. This energy-saving feature also lowers power consumption, with typical usage of only 50 watts in Eco mode. The integrated lighting (over 2000 lux) can be provided by fluorescent or LED tubes, with a dimming option. The motorised sliding front window allows easy access to the work area, while simplifying cleaning operations.
Flexibility is also a strong point of the Mars 1800. Two types of base are available: fixed or electrically height-adjustable, allowing the working surface to be adjusted from 745 to 1050 mm. The unit can easily pass through standard doors (90 x 210 cm) thanks to its compact, demountable design. Additional options allow adaptation to specific requirements: UV-C sterilisation, decontamination valves for hydrogen peroxide, customised electrical outlets, external control module and non-return valves.
Designed to last, the Mars 1800 features a steel structure with polyester coating, an elegant finish (RAL 9016) and high-quality materials for all parts in contact with the user. This model offers a complete and modular solution for laboratories seeking performance, safety and comfort, while also being environmentally responsible thanks to its low energy consumption and optimised design.
