Description

Flexi Mattress by Select Medical: Pressure Relief for High-Risk Care

The Flexi mattress by Select Medical represents the cutting edge of pressure relief technology, specially designed for patients at very high risk of developing pressure ulcers. Emerging from the renowned Pure Air range, this mattress is an advanced crossover solution that seamlessly combines modern foam technology with the innovative 'Figure 8' air cell design. This unique combination ensures unmatched comfort and effective pressure redistribution, addressing the diverse needs of patients requiring both static and dynamic pressure therapy.

The Flexi mattress is distinguished by its three distinct operating modes: Alternating, Constant Low Pressure, and Static. Each mode is designed to meet specific care needs, providing flexibility and adaptability in pressure management. In Alternating mode, the mattress alternates the inflation and deflation of cells according to a predefined cycle. This dynamic process redistributes pressure regularly, preventing prolonged pressure on any one part of the body and reducing the risk of pressure ulcers.

The Constant Low Pressure mode increases the contact surface area of the mattress, thereby reducing pressure on specific points. By contouring to the shape of the patient's body, this mode promotes gentle immersion into the mattress, enhancing comfort and pressure relief. The Static mode uses a blend of high-resilience foams over a zonal surface to create an optimal sleeping surface that maximizes pressure redistribution. The patented 'Figure 8' cell design, combined with the unique 'I' beam construction, prevents cell ballooning and maintains consistent comfort.

A key feature of the Flexi mattress is its longitudinal cell orientation, particularly in the torso area. This design innovation prevents patients from slipping between the air cells, providing more consistent support while reducing friction and shear forces during repositioning. Longitudinal cells also facilitate smoother patient transfers, minimizing discomfort for both the patient and caregiver.

Additionally, the Flexi mattress features a convex base contour that, in conjunction with the 'Figure 8' cells, encourages natural lateral positioning during repositioning. This gentle and natural movement aids in effective pressure relief and promotes regular positional changes, which are crucial for preventing pressure ulcers.

The mattress also includes a dedicated heel zone, characterized by narrower horizontally arranged cells to relieve peak pressures in the vulnerable heel area. This design ensures increased protection where it is most needed.

Constructed with durable PU air cells, the Flexi mattress features a welded, waterproof, and breathable cover that complies with Crib 7 standards. The cover is machine washable up to 95°C, making maintenance and hygiene easy. The mattress also includes practical features such as pressure adjustment controls, easily replaceable control unit filters, and audible alerts for low pressure and cycle faults.

The Flexi mattress by Select Medical stands out as a sophisticated and versatile solution for pressure relief, perfectly suited to meet the needs of high-risk pressure ulcer patients. Its innovative design and comprehensive features ensure optimal comfort and effective pressure management, making it a valuable asset in any healthcare setting.
