MaxField 28D Ophthalmic Lens – High-Precision BIO Examination
The MaxField® 28D lens from Ocular Instruments is designed for indirect examination of the fundus using an indirect binocular ophthalmoscope (BIO). It is part of the MaxField range of lenses specifically designed for medical retinal imaging, offering an optimal compromise between magnification, field of view and manoeuvrability. This lens features a computer-optimised aspheric design that maximises resolution while minimising optical aberrations.
The MaxField 28D provides 2.11x image magnification with a laser spot reduction factor of 0.47x, allowing clear visualisation of the fundus structures while maintaining an appropriate image size. Its 58° static field of view allows for a wide view of the retina, while its 27 mm working distance provides a comfortable margin for clinical practice. With a clear aperture of 38.2 mm, it ensures excellent light transmission for examinations while remaining compact.
Made of high-transmittance glass, the lens guarantees remarkable image clarity. It is ideal for use in medical environments, particularly in ophthalmology practices, specialised hospital departments or screening clinics. The lens must be oriented with the silver end towards the patient's eye to achieve optimal image quality, in accordance with its unidirectional design. This positioning promotes optimal visualisation while reducing stray reflections.
It should be used by keeping the lens centred on the patient's pupil and at a distance such that the retinal image covers the entire diameter of the lens. The light intensity of the light source must be kept to the minimum necessary to avoid contrast loss and glare. Particular attention must be paid to the maintenance of the optical surface, in particular by using a suitable cleaning cloth, in order to preserve optical performance.
