Philips MicroDose Mammography SI L50: a new era for low-dose digital mammography
The Philips MicroDose Mammography SI L50 redefines the standards of digital mammography by combining high imaging performance, patient comfort and a significant reduction in radiation dose. This innovative system is based on exclusive photon-counting technology, which captures each photon individually to produce a highly accurate image with excellent contrast and minimal noise. This unique technology enables single-shot acquisition, reducing the risk of motion blur and limiting patient discomfort.
The core of the system is its high-resolution silicon detector, which offers efficient absorption and an optimal signal-to-noise ratio. With a quantum detection efficiency (DQE) of over 0.65 at low frequencies, the L50 ensures exceptional image quality, even at very low doses. This translates into a typical AGD ranging from 0.42 to 0.97 mGy, depending on the simulated breast thickness, well below conventional standards, while maintaining maximum diagnostic reliability.
The L50 also features SmartAEC™ automatic control, a cutting-edge technology that adjusts exposure in real time during the scan. This dynamic regulation ensures a personalised dose for each patient, depending on breast thickness and composition, and optimises the balance between safety and clinical performance. Several modes are available (SmartAEC, automatic, manual), allowing healthcare professionals to adapt settings to the clinical context.
In terms of ergonomics, everything has been designed to facilitate the work of operators and improve patient comfort: motorised compression system with automatic release, foot controls, motorised C-arm with automatic isocentric positioning, lead-lined protective screen, and an intuitive user interface via the AW-table acquisition station. This workstation displays all examination parameters in real time (kV, mAs, compression, dose, time, etc.), with full DICOM integration (Worklist, MPPS, Storage, etc.).
The system's versatility allows it to be installed in a variety of environments, either fixed or mobile, with air or water cooling options depending on technical constraints. Its robustness, compliance with international standards (IEC, CE, UL, etc.) and scalable connectivity make it a long-term solution, adapted to the growing needs of breast cancer screening.
The Philips MicroDose L50 is more than just a medical device: it is a trusted technology partner for modern screening centres. Not only does it guarantee remarkable clinical effectiveness, but it also contributes to a gentler and more respectful approach to the patient journey.
