Wellwash Versa: a high-performance washing system for consistent results
The Wellwash Versa microplate washer is a high-performance instrument developed by Thermo Fisher Scientific to meet growing demands for quality and standardization in biological laboratories. Designed for both research and routine use, it fully automates the plate-washing steps required in protocols using 96- or 384-well plates, supporting ANSI/SBS-standard formats.
Thanks to its modular design, the Wellwash Versa accommodates multiple wash head formats (1x8, 2x8, 1x12, 2x12, and 1x16) and allows plates to be processed in either landscape or portrait orientation. This flexibility makes it suitable for a variety of applications, including ELISA assays, cell washing, or customized protocols. The system offers precise control over dispensing volumes, residual aspiration, and includes a built-in shaker with three speed settings, improving wash quality without compromising sample integrity.
The washer is operated through a color graphic interface and integrated keypad. Wash protocols can be created, saved, and easily recalled, with internal memory supporting up to 100 different programs. The system also offers shortcut keys for favorite protocols, and a USB port for exporting/importing files, facilitating updates and transfers between devices.
The Wellwash Versa is equipped with four liquid channels: Buffer A, Buffer B, Rinse, and Waste, each color-coded and monitored by liquid level sensors. These intelligent features reduce the risk of interruptions or overflow. The wash heads are factory-calibrated to ensure even distribution, and the "Sweep" mode allows aspiration from multiple points within each well to maximize washing efficiency.
The device includes built-in protocols for cleaning, rinsing, and disinfection. Critical components such as wash heads, the plate carrier, and bottles are easily accessible for manual cleaning or autoclaving. A magnetic acrylic cover minimizes aerosol formation during operation, protecting both the user and the lab environment. The system’s design supports preventive maintenance, with clear documentation for calibration and performance checks.
