Leica DM RA2 – Semi-Automated Microscope for Efficient Fluorescence Research
The Leica DM RA2 is a versatile, semi-automated research microscope engineered for laboratories seeking a balance between high-end automation and operational simplicity. Ideal for fluorescence microscopy, FISH, and routine diagnostic applications, the DM RA2 delivers precision imaging and ergonomic efficiency in a cost-optimized package.
Unlike the DM RXA2, the DM RA2 uses a manual 7-position nosepiece while maintaining motorized controls for focus and stage movement. This combination makes the RA2 particularly suited to environments where certain levels of manual control are preferred or where full automation is not essential.
The RA2 features a motorized XY scanning stage and Z-focus drive, integrated into a stand-alone control unit with RS232C interface for PC operation. This allows software-based microscope control, including programmable movements and stage positions for complex imaging tasks. The system is fully compatible with Leica's suite of imaging tools, enabling advanced analysis such as image stacking and fluorescence overlay.
A key benefit of the RA2 is its robust construction and reduced moving parts in the optical path, ensuring long-term stability and minimal maintenance. The fixed stage and nosepiece contribute to consistent alignments, essential for applications like fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and immunofluorescence.
Designed with ergonomic considerations, the DM RA2 includes intuitive control panels, joysticks, and focusing wheels that allow users to operate the microscope comfortably over extended periods. With high-quality Leica optics and support for multiple contrast techniques, it meets the demands of both research and routine laboratory environments.
