MiniAmp™ Plus Thermal Cycler: a precision thermal cycler for your research PCRs
The MiniAmp™ Plus from Thermo Fisher Scientific is a device designed to meet the demands of routine PCR in a compact and accessible format. This model, specifically designed for research use, offers a 96-well thermal block compatible with 0.2 mL tubes. It features a three-zone temperature control system using VeriFlex™ technology, which allows the temperature of three segments of the block to be adjusted independently, with an amplitude of 20°C. This zone control is particularly useful for optimising amplification conditions and performing tests at different stages without changing devices.
With a maximum block ramp rate of 3.5°C per second and a sample ramp rate of 2.7°C per second, the MiniAmp™ Plus enables faster PCR cycles while maintaining rigorous thermal accuracy. Temperature uniformity is less than 0.5 °C, 30 seconds after reaching 95 °C, ensuring high reproducibility of results. Temperature accuracy of ±0.25 °C in a range from 0 to 100 °C ensures rigorous control of experimental conditions.
The device is equipped with a 5-inch colour touchscreen LCD display, providing easy access to settings and protocols. It has 2,000 MB of internal memory that can store more than 1,000 protocols and a USB port for expanding storage capacity. Ethernet or WiFi connectivity allows connection to Thermo Fisher Connect, a platform that enables remote creation, sharing, scheduling and monitoring of PCR cycles. The Instrument Connect mobile app, available from Apple and Google app stores, also allows real-time monitoring from a smartphone or tablet.
Slightly larger than a shoebox, measuring 20 x 19 x 39 cm and weighing 5.9 kg, the MiniAmp™ Plus fits easily into any laboratory space. It operates on a power supply range of 100–240 V at 50–60 Hz, with a maximum power consumption of 500 W, making it compatible with most standard electrical installations.
