The Minitron: Compact incubator shaker for cell cultures
The Minitron is a high-performance incubator shaker designed to meet the requirements of biotechnology, microbiology and cell biology laboratories. Thanks to its compact and modular design, it fits easily on a bench top while offering remarkable incubation and shaking capacity. It allows the cultivation of non-pathogenic microorganisms as well as risk category 1 and 2 cells under optimal safety conditions.
The base unit incorporates two main functions: orbital shaking and temperature control. Shaking is provided by a powerful electronic motor capable of reaching up to 400 rpm, even at maximum load. The 48 x 42 cm tray can accommodate various types of bottles, tubes and plates, with an orbital movement of 25 or 50 mm depending on the model. Temperature control is provided by a high-performance heating and ventilation system, with an accuracy of ±0.3 °C between 4 and 50 °C.
Precise control of parameters and options
The Minitron offers an intuitive user interface with a touch control panel and alphanumeric display. All parameters – temperature, speed, humidity, CO₂, lighting – can be set and monitored in real time. The system also includes a programmable timer function with three modes: cyclic change, single change, or automatic process shutdown.
Among the available options, direct steam humidification reduces evaporation in microtitre plates, with relative humidity control up to 85%. CO₂ gassing is ideal for mammalian cell cultures, with precise regulation between 0.1% and 20%. LED lighting, meanwhile, allows for the culture of photosensitive cells with adjustable light intensity up to 240 µmol/m²/s.
Safety, maintenance and software compatibility
Safety is at the heart of the Minitron's design. The unit is equipped with a main switch with emergency stop, a door monitoring system, an overheating shut-off, and protective fuses. All dangerous movements stop automatically when the door is opened. The system is also compatible with INFORS HT's eve® software for bioprocess planning and analysis, as well as with the wireless communication module.
Maintenance is kept to a minimum thanks to a robust design and high-quality components. Cleaning is made easy by the removable tray and access to internal components. The Minitron can be stacked (up to two units) to optimise space, with specific restrictions on maximum speeds in dual configuration.
