Medtronic Model 5348 Single-Chamber Temporary Pacemaker
The Medtronic Model 5348 is a temporary, portable, battery-powered pacemaker designed to provide effective cardiac pacing in a single-chamber mode, in either synchronous (AAI/VVI) or asynchronous (AOO/VOO) configurations. This device is intended for temporary use in a clinical setting, including for the management of rhythm disorders such as complete atrioventricular block, sinus bradycardia, sick sinus syndrome, atrial and/or ventricular arrhythmias, and cardiac postoperative or permanent pacemaker replacement situations.
The Model 5348 typically connects to transvenous, epicardial, or myocardial pacing leads using Medtronic patient cables (5433A for the atrium or 5433V for the ventricle) or surgical cables (5832/5832S). It is designed for use with bipolar probe systems, although unipolar systems are also compatible with additional precautions against electromagnetic interference.
This stimulator is a constant current device, which means that it delivers a pulse whose intensity is kept stable regardless of myocardial impedance, within a range of 200 to 1000 ohms. It has a set of easy-to-use controls: stimulation rate (30 to 180 bpm), current amplitude (0.1 to 20 mA), and sensitivity (0.5 to 20 mV). A rapid atrial pacing ( RAP) mode is also available, allowing stimulation rates of up to 800 bpm.
The device offers several safety features such as a start-up self-test, protection against defibrillation discharge (up to 360 joules), protection against electrostatic discharge, a low battery indicator and temporary activity continuation during battery replacement. It also features a lock to prevent accidental setting changes and mechanical push-to-test buttons on the dials.
Designed to withstand hospital conditions, the Model 5348 is protected against liquids, dust and temperature variations.
This pacemaker is an ideal solution for clinicians who need a reliable, compact, and easy-to-use temporary pacing device for emergency situations or while waiting for permanent pacing.
