MODULITH® SLX-F2 from KARL STORZ: an integrated urology station for precision lithotripsy
The MODULITH® SLX-F2 developed by STORZ MEDICAL, a member of the KARL STORZ Group, represents the culmination of more than two decades of expertise in extracorporeal lithotripsy. This device is part of a modern, integrated approach to urinary stone therapy, combining high technology and ease of use to offer a comprehensive, modular solution for healthcare professionals.
This lithotripter is not just a shock wave generator, but the heart of a complete urological workstation. It incorporates STORZ MEDICAL's exclusive cylindrical electromagnetic shock wave generator, enabling precise focusing, deep penetration (up to 180 mm as an option) and optimal fragmentation efficiency, even in obese patients. The system thus ensures effective treatment of kidney and ureteral stones with minimal side effects.
The MODULITH® SLX-F2 is equipped with the StorM-Touch platform, a centralised touchscreen interface inspired by the OR1 integrated operating theatre concept. This interface provides complete and intuitive control of all system components, from the shock wave generator to imaging and endoscopic devices connected via the SCB communication bus. It greatly simplifies complex procedures and enables continuous monitoring, even remotely, from a control panel protected behind lead glass.
Imaging plays a central role in the performance of the SLX-F2. Thanks to its X-ray localisation system (AP/PA and 30° lateral projections) and online ultrasound imaging, stone localisation is accurate and reliable, even in the presence of respiratory movements. The system can be used with a mobile C-arm or an integrated radiographic system, depending on the configuration chosen. Airbags further improve the quality of radiographic images during procedures.
The modular design of the SLX-F2 allows it to be adapted to the specific needs of each facility: stationary version with integrated MX/1000 or MX/Flex system, semi-stationary or mobile version with mobile C-arm. All configurations allow ergonomic handling without repositioning the patient, facilitating vital monitoring and anaesthetic comfort.
Among its notable innovations, the device offers the Dual Focus system, which allows switching between fine and wide focus during treatment, depending on the size and position of the stone. This capability, combined with the LithoPos® automatic stone positioning system, ensures maximum precision with minimum radiation.
Thanks to the StorM-Base software solution, patient data, X-ray images and treatment parameters can be archived and analysed, with PACS compatibility via DICOM modules. The SLX-F2 is therefore a comprehensive therapeutic, diagnostic and documentation tool for the management of urinary lithiasis.
