Multiskan GO: versatile and compact UV-Vis spectrophotometer for precise absorbance analysis in the laboratory
The Thermo Scientific Multiskan GO is a UV-Visible monochromator spectrophotometer designed to meet the growing demands of biomedical, pharmaceutical and academic research laboratories. It allows absorbance measurements to be taken over a wavelength range from 200 to 1000 nm, with nanometre resolution. This wide spectral range makes it ideal for a variety of applications, including nucleic acid quantification (DNA, RNA), protein analysis, ELISA assays, enzyme studies, and cytotoxicity, cell proliferation, and apoptosis testing.
Thanks to its internal monochromator and xenon flash lamp, the Multiskan GO offers fast analysis, excellent repeatability and optimal light source stability. It allows measurements to be acquired in single, multiple or spectral scan mode, with fast or precision reading options, depending on the requirements of the experiment. It supports 96- and 384-well microplates, with or without lids, as well as standard cuvettes (in the version equipped with a cuvette port), offering great flexibility for small or large volume protocols.
The instrument is available in two versions: with or without a cuvette port. The cuvette version allows the absorbance of liquid solutions to be measured under precise conditions, with incubation and optical path length correction. The integrated cuvette port is compatible with cuvettes of different sizes and materials (plastic, quartz) and ensures optimal reading thanks to a narrow beam (< 1.8 mm) positioned 8.5 mm from the bottom. Incubation is available up to 45°C for both plates and cuvettes, and the integrated linear stirring system keeps solutions homogeneous during critical phases of the analysis.
One of the strengths of the Multiskan GO is its dual operating capability: it can be used stand-alone thanks to an integrated user interface (with display and alphanumeric keyboard), or controlled from a computer using Thermo Scientific SkanIt software, a powerful and intuitive tool for protocol programming, data processing and comprehensive report generation. The interface is available in several languages.
The Multiskan GO also stands out for its compatibility with automation systems (e.g. robots or stackers), facilitating integration into high-throughput analysis chains. It has USB ports for connection to a printer or storage device, allowing direct export of results in Excel-compatible text format (.TXT), with up to four decimal places.
Finally, the instrument has a power-saving function ("Power Save") that automatically reduces power consumption by turning off the lamp, motors and heating elements after a period of inactivity. This extends the life of the device while contributing to a more sustainable approach.
